How to Get Perfect Indoor Photos With More Light

Taking indoor pictures can be extremely tricky even for the most experienced photographers because of a number of factors, including insufficient outside light, not enough windows and the results from the use of unnatural light that totally transform the appearance of images. However, here are some tips that you can use:

Be aware of the light you have available. Light coming from the sides can make a great artistic effect, but using a flash can help you control the shadows it may produce. And light coming from the back can cause the appearance of a glow around the subject that can also be smoothed by the flash in the camera.

Take advantage of the sunlight as much as you possibly can. Since it's the most powerful light you could use. But it would be a good idea to use a tripod mount since the shutter slows down to make a clear image.

A tripod could be your best friend. When the shutter's speed slows down because the camera is used indoors, the image can come out blurry. The use of a tripod will eliminate this problem. Also, setting the timer shorter is a good way to avoid any blur when the shutter is totally depressed.

You should use your camera flash and light coming from outside to prevent shadows in subjects that are far from the camera, since the flash in the camera may not be able to reach them.

Remember to change the setting in your camera to avoid the terrible "red eye" effect. If for some reason it is not possible, it would be great if you had all the lights on in the surrounding area to help decrease the power of the flash on the eyes of people that are being photographed.

Automatic Mode — A setting that sets the focus, exposure and white-balance automatically.
Burst Mode or Continuous Capture Mode — a series of pictures taken one after another at quickly timed intervals with one press of the shutter button.
Compression — The process of compacting digital data, images and text by deleting selected information.
Digital Zoom — Cropping and magnifying the center part of an image.
JPEG — The predominant format used for image compression in digital cameras.
Lag Time — The pause between the time the shutter button is pressed and when the camera actually captures the image.
LCD — (Liquid-Crystal Display) is a small screen on a digital camera for viewing images.
Lens — A circular and transparent glass or plastic piece that has the function of collecting light and focusing it on the sensor to capture the image.
Megabyte — (MB) Measures 1024 Kilobytes, and refers to the amount of information in a file, or how much information canbe contained on a Memory Card, Hard Drive or Disk.
Pixels — Tiny units of color that make up digital pictures. Pixels also measure digital resolution. One million pixelsadds up to one mega-pixel.
RGB — Refers to Red, Green, Blue colors used on computers to create all other colors.
Resolution — Camera resolution describes the number of pixels used to create the image, which determines the amount ofdetail a camera can capture. The more pixels a camera has, the more detail it can register and the larger the picture can beprinted.
Storage Card — The removable storage device which holds images taken with the camera, comparable to film, but much smaller. Also called a digital camera memory card...
Viewfinder — The optical "window" to look through to compose the scene.
White Balance — White balancing adjusts the camera to compensate for the type of light (daylight, fluorescent, incandescent, etc.,) or lighting conditions in the scene so it will look normal to the human eye.
